Older adults in need of part-time work or retirees looking to stay active should consider applying for one of the 45,000 jobs the Census Bureau has yet to fill in New Jersey.
Most 2020 Census positions will likely last several weeks. These temporary positions can include census takers, recruiting assistants, office staff, and supervisory staff. The Census Bureau has only hired about 15,000 of the 60,000 jobs it hopes to fill in the state before January.
In New Jersey, wages vary depending on the region, but start at $16.50 an hour. Hours are flexible, sometimes including evenings and weekends. Workers must have an email address, access to the Internet, a valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle (unless public transportation is readily available).
